Welcome to the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health.
Congratulations to members of our Dept who received awards at the SA Thoracic congress:
Dr Wilson Osarogiagbon (from Nigeria who is currently training in paediatric pulmonology here) received the best paediatric poster presentation award for his research on pneumonia in children,
Dr Dave le Roux received the SATS GSK Respiratory Fellowship for work on the Drakenstein child lung health study and
Prof Heather Zar received the best publication award for a publication in Lancet Infect Diseases on Xpert for diagnosis of paediatric TB.
The Department of Paediatrics and Child Health at UCT is key academic hub
for child health at UCT. The department is involved in providing clinical services, research, undergraduate and postgraduate training, program and policy support and advocacy for child health.
The department comprises a number of divisions covering the full range of paediatric medicine and provides a training program in paediatric and paediatric sub-specialities for South African and African trainees.
The department is affiliated with many other divisions covering the full range of paediatric disciplines including paediatric surgery and a range of sub-specialities; paediatric radiology; paediatric pathology; paediatric anaesthetics; paediatric rehabilitation disciplines; paediatric nursing; child and adolescent psychiatry and mental health; and children's public health. This affiliation is reflected as the School of Child and Adolescent Health.

Research is a core function of the SCAH, which has a very active research program.

SCAH offers a wide range of medical, Surgical, and supplementary services in paediatric and adolescent health.
